Who They Are and What They Do
FOGS stands for Friends Of the Gardens Society. They are a group of enthusiastic gardeners with varying degrees of experience. The FOGS have been volunteering their time and knowledge to keep the gardens at Park & Tilford looking beautiful since 1996.
The FOGS work every Thursday morning from 9 am until noon from early February to the end of November. As a group, the FOGS give over 2000 hours of their time to Park & Tilford Gardens annually.
The FOGS plan, plant, and prune – amongst many other things. Tasks vary depending on the season and the priorities and objectives of the garden. The work is organized and supervised by the Garden Director. In the spring there are roses to prune, baskets and pots to plant, perennials to maintain, and beds to tidy. In the autumn they plant bulbs, rake leaves, cut back plants, and make plans for the following year. And of course, weeding happens all year round!
The FOGS work collaboratively, constantly learning from each other, and having a great deal of fun in the process. If you are interested in becoming a FOG, please Contact Us.
