Experience the splendor of the Pacific Northwest coastal forest in the Native Garden, home to many local species, including Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata), Sword Fern (Polystichum munitum), Vine Maple (Acer circinatum), Salal (Gaultheria shallon), native Dogwood (Cornus nuttalli), and Cascara (Rhamnus purshiana).

Follow the wooden bridge as it spans the boggy stretch filled with Western Skunk Cabbage (Lysichiton americanus). The yellow blooms, with their distinctive scent, permeate the air in spring.
The centrepiece of the coastal garden is the magnificent totem pole titled Eagle and Woman. Commissioned by the FOGS and carved by Squamish Nation craftsman Cody Mathias, the totem pole is a representation of the FOGS, a predominantly female group.

Keep an eye out for the huge tree stump located near the office. After being struck by lightning on Grouse Mountain, this remnant of a yellow cedar was cut into manageable pieces and then transported and reassembled in the garden.
Many of the Cedars have died over the years and have been topped to bring more light into the garden. The trunks have been left as wildlife habitat.
