The Herb Garden is in the process of being completely renovated by the FOGS.  It has been a huge undertaking, but has been a great success so far.

A herb garden is a collection of plants known for either their medicinal properties or their culinary uses. Our herb garden has over a hundred different varieties of plants in the small space. We have focused on making the garden a pretty space to visit, but aim to make it an educational place for those who wish to learn more about herbal plants. The Herb Garden Catalogue (listed on this website) will eventually have a list of all the plants growing in the Herb Garden with descriptions of each including their medicinal or culinary uses. This is a huge project and will take some time to complete, so please be patient.

A challenge that we have had in designing this garden is that the south border is in shade most of the day due to the mature magnolias in the garden. Most culinary herbs originated in the Mediterranean and prefer full sun and well-drained soils. The Herb Garden is watered by a regular irrigation system, so many of the plants are not grown as "lean" as they prefer. We do our best to provide as much variety as possible under the circumstances.
